It may sound strange, but in the beginning I had never even heard of Reiki before a friend pestered me into taking a class she was hosting here on the Big Island. I was in my late 30’s and had recently graduated from massage school, which was a whole new career and world for me, and she said, “You’ll love Reiki! You just put your hands on people and they heal!” My first thought was “Seriously, you think I’m that gullible?” I understood massage because it was tangible, like fixing a car. You had X amount of parts, a problem, a tool kit, and you fixed the problem with certain tools. Very straight forward. But Energy Healing hadn’t been introduced in my massage training so it was a foreign concept. Plus I was very left-brained at that time and hated all that “Goddessey crap” (I don’t anymore!). I’d owned a landscaping business, was a professional horse trainer and riding instructor, surfed a lot, was a certified Personal Trainer, etc. All very tangible left-brain stuff.
So in the mid 90s (when I was in my 30s) Reiki was still viewed with suspicion, like voodoo or something creepy and weird, not to be trusted (if you’d even heard of it at all). I knew nothing about Energy Healing at that time and was actually pretty pissed off during my first Level I class, thinking the whole weekend was a complete waste of my time and money. Well…. Reiki has a way of gently leading you on it’s path of healing and awakening, but only if you want it to. I don’t consciously remember making any sort of agreement like that with Reiki, but some much deeper part of me had and was totally on board with it! So while I wasn’t intentionally seeking Reiki, it gently led me along the way because I did allow myself to be guided. But I didn’t really take it seriously, even though my massage clients were feeling the difference. It’s a very long story, so fast forward 26 years…. and here I am now, a Licensed Reiki Master Teacher (LRMT) with The International Center for Reiki Training, the largest and most prestigious Reiki school in the world, and have been a practitioner of Reiki and other Healing Arts for over 26 years. Who knew???
My spiritual path emerged when I was 16 and led to a lifetime of spiritual exploration, world travel, and eventually working in the Healing Arts, which in turn has led me to my true life purpose as a teacher of Reiki. I love sharing Reiki with the students in my classes, and also enjoy seeing clients and helping them with their healing process. Because of the influence of Reiki in my life, I’ve joyfully dedicated my work and life to helping people and animals live better through improved health, well-being, joy, and peace. My home is Hawaii and I bring to my work the warmth and sacredness of the “Aloha Spirit”. A-lo-ha literally means “the breath of God” and is a recognition of the sacred Divinity within another. I honor and recognize this light within every student and client.
Life is an interesting evolution of one thing leading into another that takes us in unexpected directions. As a surfer from the Big Island of Hawaii, I never could have guessed that my fitness background would lead me to becoming a massage therapist, which would then lead me to Reiki and becoming a Reiki Master Practitioner, and then an ICRT Licensed Reiki Master Teacher. Nor did I ever imagine that I’d end up living half the year in Virginia, and traveling around to other parts of the country teaching healing skills to others.
All of these life experiences have molded me into the teacher and mentor I wished I’d had many years ago, and I’m very happy to be able to share with you the essence of my accumulated knowledge and wisdom. I bring to my classes and healing sessions a combination of excellent training, real life experience, hard earned wisdom, Love, Compassion, Humor, and Grace in a relaxed environment infused with the warmth of Aloha that instantly puts clients and students at ease.
It’s truly a joy, honor, and blessing to help others heal and learn lifelong skills you can use to heal yourself, your loved ones, and in turn….. the world.
Aloha, Peace, and Blessings
